Greene Back On Twitter 12 Hours After Account Locked In 'Error'

Twitter blamed U.S. Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene's temporarily locked account on an "error." Greene blamed it on "the Silicon Valley Cartel."

Controversial U.S. Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene blamed her latest temporary Twitter ban Friday on "the Silicon Valley Cartel" and a measure introduced in the House to remove her for appearing to endorse violent threats against Democrats.

DALLAS-HIRAM, GA — U.S. Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene’s Twitter account was unlocked Friday afternoon after being locked without explanation just 12 hours earlier.

A spokesperson for Twitter said it was a mistake.

“We use a combination of technology and human review to enforce the Twitter rules across the service,” the spokesperson said, as reported by Politico and other media outlets. “In this case, our automated systems took enforcement action on the account referenced in error.”

Greene said she thought it happened because U.S. Rep. Jimmy Gomez of California had just tweeted about a measure to remove her from Congress for social-media activity appearing to endorse violence against Democrats. CNN reported in January that Greene had liked a comment saying that “a bullet to the head” would be the quickest way to stop House Speaker Nancy Pelosi.

“This is yet another attempt by the Silicon Valley Cartel to silence voices that speak out against their far-left woke orthodoxy,” Greene said in a statement from her office Friday, as reported by Politico.

After she was reinstated, Greene tweeted directly to Twitter CEO Jack Dorsey, referring sarcastically to the suspension as a “coincidence.”

Green was last locked out of Twitter for 12 hours for claiming without basis that the Georgia general election was “stolen” from then-President Donald Trump. The offending tweet came just after the Jan. 6 insurrection at the U.S. Capitol.

In early February, Greene was stripped of her House committee assignments because of her history supporting debunked conspiracy theories.

Gomez's measure to kick Greene out of Congress is largely symbolic. Removing her would require a two-thirds vote, but the U.S. House is split almost evenly between Democrats and Republicans, with Democrats holding a slight edge.
