The girl was in critical condition at an Atlanta area hospital until authorities were notified Wednesday that she had died.

Detectives believe that the boy retrieved a handgun from the console of the family's car and accidentally discharged it striking his sister in the head. This incident took place inside the car in the driveway of the home.

About 5:47 p.m., Paulding deputies responded to 158 Laurelcrest Lane in Dallas, which is in The Park at Cedarcrest subdivision, on reports a child had been shot. When deputies arrived at scene they began rendering aid with other first responders to the girl. As soon as they were able, fire and EMS personnel took her to an Atlanta-area hospital.

The children's mother told detectives the family was loading up in their vehicle to leave the home when the car would not start. The mother got out of the vehicle to see if she could figure out what was wrong with the car and that is when she heard the shot.

The family's GoFundMe page quotes one of Mille's favorite songs:

Oh is free indeed

Yes I am
