DALLAS, GA — A longtime officer with the Paulding County Sheriff’s retired Friday, albeit without an official celebration because of COVID-19 precautions.

Sgt. Lenny Carr joined the staff in 2005 as a detention officer, according to his retirement announcement from the sheriff’s office. Over 16 years and under two different sheriffs, Carr served in the jail division and the uniform patrol division. He eventually rose to sergeant in the Crimes Against Children unit of the juvenile division. Carr also oversaw the sex offender registry for Paulding County.

During his career, Carr also worked as an investigator with the Paulding County Judicial Circuit District Attorney’s Office as well as the Paulding County Marshall’s Bureau.

“Lenny is an excellent Detective and will be remembered for his tenacity when it comes to putting away child sexual offenders,” said Sheriff Gary Gulledge. “I wish we could have sent him off with a huge party, but due to the COVID-19 pandemic we were unable to. Once everything gets back to normal, we will host an official retirement ceremony for him along with several others at a later date.”

Other recent retirees from the sheriff’s office who had to forego official celebrations because of COVID-19 include Lt. Mark Parker in January and Mary Autry in December.
