Sheriff's Office: Beware of Publishers Clearing House Scam
A Paulding County man was asked to send $1,000 to claim his prize.

A Paulding County man said someone pretending to be affiliated with Publishers Clearing House called to tell him he was the winner of $1 million and a new car.
But there was a catch.
"In order to collect," Harry Beaty wrote on his Facebook page, "we had to pay a $1,000 tax first."
When Beaty challenged the caller, he said the person hung up. The Paulding County Sheriff's Office said it was a scam.
"Be leery of deals that are too good to be true," the agency wrote on its Facebook page. "These type of scams occur all the time and we want citizens to be aware of them."
