Decatur, Avondale Estates to Celebrate Annexation

The public is invited to the event at noon Nov. 10 at Sam's Crossing.

There used to be a strip of unincorporated land between Decatur and Avondale Estates.

No more. The cities annexed the commercial property through the legislature last summer. Now the cities have a common boundary.

To mark the annexations, the two cities are getting together for a little celebration at noon Saturday at the grassy corner at Sam's Crossing and East College Avenue.

The recent annexation of property along E. College Avenue allowed, for the first time, the boundaries of the City of Avondale Estates and the City of Decatur to meet. The annexation gives both the City of Avondale Estates and the City of Decatur control over the redevelopment of these areas, which are gateways to both cities. The City of Avondale Estates and the City of Decatur are partners in creating  successful, sustainable communities.

Refreshments from local Avondale Estates and Decatur merchants will be provided. All are welcome to attend

What changes would you like to see in this area? New stores? Changes to the existing stores?

Editor's note: A previous version of this story said the event would take place on Thursday. It's Saturday.
