Rezoning Would Put Hotel in North Decatur Neighborhood
A Marriott Residence Inn would be built on what is now six residential lots in the Medlock neighborhood.
DECATUR, GA -- A rezoning plan being pushed in DeKalb County would turn what is currently six residential lots in a north Decatur neighborhood into a Residence Inn by Marriott hotel.
The development, which would ultimately need to be endorsed by DeKalb County commissioners, would be at the corner of Blackmon Drive and Scott Boulevard, in the Medlock neighborhood just north of Decatur city limits.
Members the Medlock Area Neighborhood Association were notified of the plan on Monday.

"There are several concerns about this proposal," MANA said in a post on its website.
A community meeting to discuss the proposed hotel is set for Wednesday, June 1, at 7 p.m. at North Decatur United Methodist Church.

The rezoning proposal calls for a five-story hotel on the property, which would be a combined 2.3 acres.
The request is being submitted by PSH Decatur, LLC, which will be hosting the community meeting.
The impacted properties would be 2464, 2470, 2476, 2482 and 2488 Blackmon Drive and 1602 Scott Blvd.
In addition to needing the residential properties rezoned to allow commercial use, the developers also are asking for a special-use permit to build higher than county ordinances typically allow.
