False Alarm Near Douglasville High School Forces Lockdown
New Manchester High School went into lockdown Monday after an armed robbery was reported across the street. It was a false alarm.
UPDATE: An armed-robbery report near New Manchester High School that turned out to be a false alarm forced the school into a two-hour lockdown Monday.
The report came around midday after an area homeowner called a family member and said he was being robbed at gunpoint, according to Douglas County sheriff's spokesperson as reported by The Atlanta Journal-Constitution. The homeowner responded by shooting into a back window of the house.
A SWAT team was called, but when no evidence of a robbery was found, police sent the homeowner to a hospital for a mental evaluation, according to the the Atlanta newspaper.

The lockdown was lifted at 2:14 p.m., according to Douglas County School System spokesperson Portia Lake.

DOUGLASVILLE, GA — A Douglas County school went into lockdown early Monday afternoon after an active shooter situation was reported in a nearby neighborhood, according to multiple media reports.
New Manchester High School in Douglasville lifted its lockdown after 2 p.m., according to a social-media post by the Douglas County School System.
The lockdown — due to what system spokesperson Portia Lake described as a “potentially dangerous situation in the neighborhood across the street” — happened at about 12:15 p.m. and was announced on social media at about 1 p.m.
Police activity was seen across the street from New Manchester, according to The Atlanta Journal-Constitution.
