Alzheimer's Community Educator

As your local Alzheimer's Community Educator for Douglas County I am pleased to announce its time our annual fund raiser

As your local Alzheimer's Community Educator for Douglas County I am providing you an update on issues we have been working on to make your life as a care giver and/or care partner better. Alzheimer's as you know has risen to the 5th leading cause of death in the US, that is up from last year and its the 4th leading cause of death in the African American Community. Alzheimer's disease has a devastating impact not just on those with the disease, its also a burden on their caregivers -- a job that usually falls on family and friends. Alzheimer's and dementia caregivers often provide care that is more extensive and intimate than that of other caregivers. Although caregiving is often rewarding, the intense responsibilities often take a toll on the caregiver. The Alzheimer's Caregiver Support Act (S. 56/H.R. 1474) would help provide critical training and relief to Alzheimer's and dementia caregiver. This bill would provide grants for training and support services for families and unpaid caregivers of individuals living with Alzheimer's disease or another dementia. Those eligible to receive grants include community health center, senior centers, and state agencies. At least 10% of the funding must go to those who serve caregivers in medically underserved communities. Once this bill pass our lives will be a lot better as care givers and/or care partners. I will not be holding an annual event on 20 Jun because of COVID. Stay safe, get vaccinated, COVID FREE and have your legislators support this bill.
