Animals Being Brought To Atlanta Before Hurricane Florence
The animals will be medically evaluated and placed up for adoption in Atlanta shortly.
ATLANTA, GA —The Atlanta Humane Society took in 35 dogs and cats from South Carolina in preparation for the landfall of Hurricane Florence. These animals were already available for adoption at the shelters in South Carolina, but by taking them into our care, we ae enabling the shelter to free up much needed space in their facility for animals who will become lost or displaced during or after the storm and ensure the animals are safe from the storm. The animals will be medically evaluated and placed up for adoption in Atlanta shortly.
The Atlanta Humane Society has an Animal Emergency Services team who is trained in disaster relief and response. When the storm started to form, this team contacted our partner shelters in the regions to see how we might be of assistance to them during this time.
Last year, the Atlanta Humane Society helped take in nearly 1,000 shelter animals from hurricane ravaged areas.
