Construction Begins On SR 166 Roundabout In Douglas County

Work crews will begin clearing trees and vegetation in the project area in preparation for construction of the roundabout configuration.

DOUGLAS COUNTY, GA — Contractors for the Georgia Department of Transportation will begin construction activities related to the SR 166 at SR 70/92/154 Roundabout intersection improvement project in Douglas County. Work crews will begin clearing trees and vegetation in the project area in preparation for construction of the roundabout configuration.

As the project progresses, some traffic pacing and lane closures may be needed. Motorists should watch for workers and equipment in the roadway; flaggers will alert drivers of any traffic impacts. This project is scheduled for completion in late fall 2019.

This roundabout project was designed to improve traffic flow and reduce crashes at the intersection. Currently, the three-legged intersection has stop or yield traffic control, and significant percentage of crashes in the area have been related to angle collisions. National studies have shown that the installation of a roundabout results in nearly 80 percent reduction in fatal and serious injury crashes.
