Douglas Sheriff: Don't Come To Court Unless Needed
Fears over the spread of the coronavirus caused court filing deadlines to delay. The sheriff is asking the public not to come unless needed.
DOUGLAS COUNTY, GA — The Douglas County Sheriff's Office is asking the public to stop coming to the courthouse unnecessarily. Fears over the spread of the new coronavirus cause the request.
A social media post by the sheriff's office says the Douglas County courthouse is closed to the public "with the exception of the judicial system."
The courts are still running, the sheriff said, and people can legally file with clerks' offices, it's being discouraged.

All filing deadlines for cases in Georgia have been postponed through April 13, according to an order from Georgia Supreme Court Chief Justice Harold Melton, the sheriff said.
"The judges therefore encourage those who would otherwise come to the courthouse in person to wait until after that date," the sheriff's social media post said.
