Douglasville Beautification Executive Wins Statewide Award

The highest award by Keep Georgia Beautiful was awarded to Douglasville chapter executive Chan Weeks for her local efforts.

DOUGLASVILLE, GA - Keep Douglasville Beautiful Executive Director, Chan Weeks, was awarded statewide recognition at an awards ceremony this week.

Weeks was awarded the 2019 Barbara Mason Executive Director of the Year Award, which recognizes outstanding leadership, commitment, determination, and dedication to the Keep America Beautiful mission, ideals and process.

“I am so proud of Chan and all of her accomplishments,” said Mayor Rochelle Robinson. “She has done so much to help beautify our community by maintaining the visual aesthetics of Douglasville with flowers and litter cleanup, and by also stressing the importance of recycling and preservation. We are all elated for Chan on this well-deserved recognition.”

Among her accomplishments, Weeks oversaw the creation of Douglasville’s Freedom Island at the intersection of Hospital Drive and Campbellton Street. She also assisted in the planning and implementation of the Military Honor Garden located at Hunter Park.

“I am humbled to have received this great honor,” Weeks said. “It is wonderful affirmation of what I have done in the past, but it also motivates me to do even more in the future.”

In addition to the Barbara Mason Executive Director of the Year Award, Keep Douglasville Beautiful was also awarded with the 2019-2020 Governor’s Circle Award. This award recognizes Keep Douglasville Beautiful’s outstanding achievements in community beautification and environmental sustainability.
