Douglasville Convention & Visitor’s Bureau Celebrates 37th Annual National Travel And Tourism Week

The Douglasville Convention & Visitor’s Bureau (CVB) is leading Douglasville’s travel and tourism community during National Travel and Tourism Week (NTTW). In its 37th year, NTTW continues to unite towns and cities across the country behind a common theme. The 2020 National Travel and Tourism Week will honor the “spirit of travel”, recognizing the industry’s strength, selflessness, and resiliency.

“When times are uncertain, the only certainty is that the spirit of travel will not be shattered,” said U.S. Travel Association President and CEO Roger Dow. “The spirit of travel isn’t only found in far-off places. When residents embrace the spirit of travel by supporting local businesses and helping their neighbors, they are also playing a key role in rebuilding their community—and America”

The spirit of travel is alive and well in Douglasville and Douglas County. Dollars spent by visitors to Douglasville/Douglas County have soared from upward of $150 million in 2009 to approximately $260 million in 2018 – an increase of 42.3%. Additionally, state and local tax revenues from the tourism sector have generated a combined $18.85 million in 2018. Without that tax revenue generated by tourism, each Douglas County home would need to pay an additional $385 per year to make up the difference.

Tourism also supported 2,237 jobs within Douglas County in 2018, supporting a payroll of approximately $52.93 million.

“We’ve seen tremendous growth in our community and I’m proud to be an advocate for that growth in Douglasville. I’m eager to work closely with our residents to continue to show visitors why Douglasville is so special,” explained Tourism Program Manager, Samantha Rosado. “Although we can’t meet in person, we can stay connected, unified and supportive of each other from afar, rallying around the spirit of travel.”

With that in mind, the Douglasville CVB will celebrate National Travel and Tourism Week with a week of digital activities. These activities include a live Travel Rally via Zoom, videos from key Douglasville hotspots, a post of the “perfect itinerary” (created by locals) and much more.
