Old Toys 'R Us Site To House Two Gold's Gyms In Douglasville
Douglasville's two Gold Gym's are moving to the old Toys R Us building after being sold to another fitness center.
DOUGLASVILLE, GA — The two Gold's Gyms in Douglasville are moving to the old Toys 'R Us building near Arbor Place Mall after being sold.
The gym's owner sold the two locations to OneLife Fitness and all will move into the 50,000 square foot building that housed the toy chain that closed earlier this year
Owner Gordon Johnson told the Douglas County Sentinel that strategically, it made sense to go through a major modification and to combine the facilities. The move required a multi-million dollar commitment, which Johnson said he felt would be better done by a much larger company.

“For all the 34 years we have operated in Douglasville we provided state-of-the-art, first-class facilities and programs. We sought out One Life Fitness, with whom we were familiar, and this fits their growth plans,” Johnson told the Sentinel.
“We knew the principles and principals of their company. This was an arrangement that was agreeable to them—it made sense for them and for us.”

Opening as Douglasville Health and Athletic Club by Gordon Johnson in 1985, the clubs joined the Gold’s Gym brand in 1996.
According to Johnson, the facility is expected to open between July and September 2020, barring any construction delays.
Some of the amenities that will be featured in the new space include an indoor lap pool, whirlpool, saunas, group fitness studio, hot yoga, cinema room, kids club and exclusive high-intensity training sessions.
