Douglasville Welcomes Home Olympian Castlin On Tuesday

Kristi Castlin won bronze in a dramatic USA medal sweep of the women's 100-meter hurdles.

DOUGLASVILLE, GA — Douglasville will be welcoming home an Olympic hero Tuesday evening.

An event welcoming home bronze medal winner Kristi Castlin has been set for 7 p.m. at O'Neal Plaza, at 6695 Church St. in downtown Douglasville.

In taking the bronze in the women's 100-meter hurdles, Castlin became part of one of the most inspiring U.S. wins of the Summer Olympics in Rio.

It was a sweep for the United States, which took all three medals, marking the first time the event had ever been swept by one country.

Brianna Rollins won the gold medal, with a time of 12.48. Nia Ali took silver at 12.59 and Castlin finished the finals race in 12.61 seconds.

Castlin, 28, is a Douglasville native who graduated from Chapel Hill High School. She attended college at Virginia Tech.

People who attend Tuesday's event will have a chance to meet Castlin, as she is welcomed home after the Games, which held closing ceremonies on Sunday night.
