'Fatherhood Celebration Month' Declared By Douglas County Board
With Father's Day just around the corner, Douglas County's Board of Commissioners decided to declare all of June a celebration of dads.
DOUGLASVILLE, GA — With Father’s Day coming this Sunday, the Douglas County Board of Commissioners has voted to proclaim June 2021 as Fatherhood Celebration Month.
The idea is to raise public awareness of the importance of fatherhood and a father’s engagement with his children, family and community, according to a statement from the commissioners.
Vice chair Kelly G. Robinson, a father himself, moved to approve the proclamation at the board’s June 8 meeting, and District 4 Commissioner Ann Jones Guider seconded the motion. The proclamation was approved unanimously by the board.

“Research demonstrates that children who have an involved father are more likely to be emotionally secure, physically healthy, have success in social skills, academic performance, adult careers and employment goals,” said Dr. Latrece Collins, reading from the proclamation during the virtually held board meeting.
“A lot of times, mothers are emphasized for their sacrifice, hard work and effort in support of their families,” said Board Chair Dr. Romona Jackson Jones. “I’m pleased to be part of a unanimous vote to approve a proclamation to support fathers.”
