Free 9-Volt Batteries To Be Available Through Grant

Douglasville families can receive up to three batteries each free of charge.

DOUGLASVILLE, GA — The City of Douglasville’s Keep Douglasville Beautiful, or KDB, announces their selection as a grant recipient of 36,000 9-volt Duracell batteries, awarded through the 2018 Duracell/ Keep
American Beautiful Battery Grant Program.

KDB is proud to be the recipient of 36,000 batteries valued at $108,000. KDB is excited to partner with the Douglas County Fire/EMS Department in support of Fire Prevention Month, which is observed in October, to distribute 9V batteries to benefit families in our community.

According to the National Fire Protection Association, two-thirds of all fire deaths occur in homes in which smoke alarms either aren’t present or aren’t working. The batteries from the grant program are for use in home safety devices, such as smoke detectors and carbon monoxide detectors. The Duracell 9V Battery Grant Program provides an additional opportunity to highlight the importance of safety within our community and to extend our partnership further to include our local fire department in distribution to those in our community.

Remember, it’s important not to carry loose batteries in pockets or purses as they may pose a safety risk by being shorted by contact with metal objects and can leak, overheat or rupture.

The batteries will be available at the Keep Douglasville Beautiful/Douglas County Fire Station booth during the September Saturday’s event held on Sept. 22 and 29, at the Recycling Event held at the First Presbyterian Church overflow parking lot on Sept. 29, and at each Douglas County Fire Station beginning Oct. 1. Families can receive up to three batteries each free of charge.
