Gas Line Break Near Dog River Bridge Forces House Evacuations

Update: As of 9:40 p.m. Wednesday, Douglas County firefighters were released from the scene of a gas main break on Post Road.

UPDATE: As of 9:40 p.m. Wednesday, Douglas County firefighters were released from the scene of a gas main break on Post Road after Atlanta Gas & Light capped the leak. Residents have since been allowed to return to their homes.

DOUGLAS COUNTY, GA — Post Road near Dog River Bridge was closed in both directions and several houses were evacuated after construction workers accidentally broke a gas line.

Until the break is repaired, drivers are being asked to avoid Post Road between Tyree and Jenkins roads, said county spokesperson Rick Martin.

At least six to eight residences have been evacuated, affecting about 10 people, Martin said. No injuries were reported. Atlanta Gas Light and GreyStone Power are both currently at the scene.
