Georgia Artists With DisAbilities Exhibit To Visit Douglasville

DOUGLASVILLE, GA -- The Cultural Arts Council Douglasville/ Douglas County welcomes Georgia Artists with DisAbilities, Inc.’s 34th annual statewide tour and exhibit for which over 50 award-winning pieces of art from disabled artists across Georgia will be displayed. The exhibit will open April 4 and run through April 25.

The opening reception will be hosted by the Douglas County Pilot Club on Thursday, April 4 from 6 until 8 p.m. at the Cultural Arts Council. The entries in the exhibit include paintings, photographs, clay pottery, textiles and other mediums.

Local artist Jesse Shuler from Douglasville will be featured and also won an honorable mention award for her acrylic painting “Vortex.” Jesse has been doing art for 20 plus years. She really enjoys doing cartoon art, but has learned to embrace other types of art since beginning her studies. Jesse’s goals are to continue to keep learning different mediums of art such as pottery.

Another award-winning artist featured is Rick Harbin’s coloring “Cat’s Meow.” Rick is a 63-year-old self-taught craftsman and attends Avita Community Partners of Carnesville. Rick was selected as “Outstanding Citizen of the Year” in 2013 by the Avita Community Partners. He is also an honorary policeman for the Lavonia Police Department.

Georgia Artists with DisAbilities, Inc. was founded in 1985 by the Pilot Clubs of Metro Atlanta and is supported by Georgia District Pilot Clubs. The goal of the Pilot International Foundation is "full citizenship for people who are disabled.” The mission of Georgia Artists with DisAbilities is to provide avenues through which Georgia artists with disabilities can display their artistic accomplishments in all disciplines of the arts, and to create public awareness of the artistic skills these artists have developed by overcoming the obstacles of their disabilities. Georgia Artists with DisAbilities, Inc. is a 501(c)(3) organization.
