Man With Rifle Dead After Douglasville Officer-Involved Shooting

DOUGLASVILLE, GA — A man with a rifle who drew fire from Douglasville police was found dead Friday near the scene of the confrontation, according to authorities.

Douglasville police had been called to the Crestmark Apartments in Lithia Springs at about 4 a.m. to handle a domestic dispute involving a man pointing a gun at a woman, Douglasville police said via social media.

“When the first officer arrived, he encountered the male who was armed with a rifle,” the online statement said. “The officer fired his handgun and the subject fled with the rifle.” The man with the rifle was later found dead in the woods nearby.

The department’s statement doesn’t say whether the officer’s gunshot killed the man, who has yet to be identified to the public. The GBI has been called to investigate the shooting.
