In Memory: Charles R. Thornton, 78, of Douglasville

He loved classic cars and street rods, was a beekeeper and made his own honey, loved to travel, was an avid runner.

Charles R. Thornton, age 78 of Douglasville, passed away, Monday, October 26, 2015. He was born November 17, 1936 in Bowdon, GA to the late Ira Eugene Thornton and Rose Lee Calhoun Thornton.

He was a retired truck driver with Sears & Roebuck. Charles loved classic cars and street rods. He was a beekeeper and made his own honey, loved to travel, was an avid runner and participated in many races and half-marathons including the Peachtree Road Race. He was a member of Grace Presbyterian church.

Survivors are his wife of 59 years, Nancy Smith Thornton; children: Rhonda and Mike Snow of Marietta; Katy and Ron Bender of Villa Rica; grandchildren: Alyson Snow, Meagan Snow, Andrew Snow, Stephen Ivey, Maggie Martin and Christian, Rhonda Ann Sanders; great grandchildren: Harper Lee Martin and Truman Charles Martin; sisters: Mary O’Neal of LaGrange and Imajean Wiggins of Bowdon; numerous nieces and nephews.

Funeral Service will be held Wednesday, October 28, 2015 at 12 Noon at Hightower’s Memorial Chapel with Pastor David Gilbert and Pastor Clif Daniell officiating. A private family Interment will follow at Sardis Baptist Church Cemetery, Bowdon, GA. Serving as Pallbearers will be Wayne Parker, Will Chatman, Ben Ponder, Randy Ponder, Brandon Eidson and Danny Willis.

The family will receive friends, Wednesday, October 28, 2015 from 10:00 AMuntil the service hour of 12 Noon at the funeral home.

In lieu of flowers, those desiring to do so may make contributions to the Grace Presbyterian Church Mission Fund.
