In Memory: Geraldine 'Gerry' Austin Cogburn, 91

She worked for Sears, but her life's work was taking care of her family

Geraldine “Gerry” Austin Cogburn, age 91, of Carrollton, formerly of Austell, passed away on Wednesday, November 11, 2015. She was born in Richmond, Indiana, on March 14, 1924, the daughter of the late James Earlie Austin and the late Addie Lee Teal Austin.

Following her graduation from high school in Paulding County she worked in Customer Service for Sears & Roebuck. Her life’s work, however, was taking care of her family and seeing to their every need. She was strong in her faith and, until she was no longer able to attend, was a faithful and devoted member of Mt. Pisgah Baptist Church in Austell.

In addition to her parents, she was also preceded in death by her beloved husband of 53 years, Charles Lee Cogburn; her brother: James “Buddy” Austin; and her sisters-in-law: Corine Austin and Glenda Austin.

Survivors include her sons and daughter-in-law: Lee and Deborah Cogburn of Douglasville, and David Cogburn of Carrollton; sister and brother-in-law: Peggy and Bill McNair of Dallas; brother: Emmett “Buster” Austin of Marietta; grandchildren: Kathryn Sauls and her husband, Jacob, of Douglasville, and Sabrina Cogburn of Villa Rica; great grandson: Logan Sauls of Douglasville; several nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews.

The Funeral Service will be held Saturday, November 14, 2015 at 2:00 P.M. from Hightower’s Memorial Chapel with Brother Mike Halstead and Reverend Keith Stell officiating.

The family will receive friends at Hightower’s Memorial Chapel on Friday, November 13, 2015 from 5:00-8:00 P.M. and also for an hour before the service on Saturday.

Interment will follow in the Sunrise Memorial Gardens in Douglasville.

Flowers are accepted; however, those desiring to do so may make contributions in Mrs. Cogburn’s memory to Mt. Pisgah Baptist Church, 851 South Gordon Road, Austell, GA 30168.
