In Memory: Harold E. Turner, 76, of Douglasville

Mr. Turner was a U.S. Air Force vet, worked for General Motors, and operated Spider Gear Upholstery Shop in Douglasville.

Mr. Harold E. Turner, age 76, of Douglasville, passed away October 31, 2015. He was born in Atlanta, Georgia, on May 17, 1939, the son of the late Eugene “Gene” Turner and the late Alice Ward Akins.

Following graduation from high school Mr. Turner joined the United States Air Force and served one term before going to work for General Motors where he worked his way up to Supervisor and retired at age 49.

After retirement, Mr. Turner taught himself how to sew and operated Spider Gear Upholstery Shop in Douglasville for over 10 years and then he would upholster from home. Aside from upholstery, Mr. Turner enjoyed taking trips to Biloxi, gardening, feeding birds, and taking care of his beloved Jack Russell Terrier, Sparkey Turner.

He is survived by his wife of 50 years, Shirley Chappell Turner, of Douglasville; step-father Charles Akins of Douglasville; daughters and sons-in-law: Pam and Thomas Otwell of Villa Rica, Fran and Jeff Perry, Sr., Pat and David Graben, and Lynn and Dennis McClarty all of Douglasville; son: Jeff Turner of Douglasville; grandchildren: Jeffrey Perry, Jr., Steven Perry, Crystal Brooks, Wendy Graben, Ashley Otwell, Melanie Eidson, Max Otwell, Dylan Turner, Sierra Turner, Allison McClarty, Brian McClarty, and Chelsea Turner; great-grandchildren: Brady Perry, Blake Graben, Chevy Perry, Cayleigh Graben, Ryan Dameron, Rylee Dameron, Alexis Brooks, Cole Brooks, Presley Tucker, and Gage Tucker; brother-in-law: Delmas Chappell of Calhoun; sister-in-law: Delane Estes of Texas; beloved pet and best friend: Sparkey Turner.

Funeral Services will conducted on Monday, November 2, 2015 at 2:00 P.M. from Hightower’s Memorial Chapel with Brother Dennis Hollis and Brother Johnny Ivey officiating.

Interment will follow in the Mt. Harmony Memorial Park with Military Honors. Pallbearers will be Blake Graben, David Graben, Thomas Otwell, Jeff Perry, Sr., Jeff Turner, Ben Eidson, Jeffrey Perry, Jr., and Dillon Turner.

The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Sunday, November 1, 2015 from 5:00-8:00 P.M.
