New Traffic Shift On SR 92 Underway In Douglasville

DOUGLASVILLE, GA—You may have noticed some traffic changes in the area of State Route (SR) 92 recently. This has resulted in partial road closures, traffic shifts and some delays for drivers.

That's because, this week Georgia DOT contractors began installing a new temporary traffic shift on State Route (SR) 92 in the City of Douglasville for the ongoing State Route (SR) 92 relocation and widening project in Douglas County.

On Wednesday, crews started installing a partial road closure on SR 92/Dallas Highway between its intersections with Brown Street/Davis Drive and Malone Street. This closure puts traffic on the northbound lanes of the new state route 92 alignment, temporarily utilizing it for two-way traffic while work continues on construction of the new southbound lanes.

During this traffic shift, southbound Dallas Highway traffic approaching Davis Drive have been shifted onto the new SR 92/Old Dallas Highway alignment, continuing south onto Malone Street which will become Dallas Highway approximately 1.25 miles from Upshaw Mill.

Northbound Dallas Highway has temporarily merged onto Malone Street then turn left onto the new State Route 92 alignment to continue north toward Paulding County.

The speed limit has been reduced to 25 mph on both approaches to the new SR 92/Malone Street intersection, with an advisory speed of 15 miles per hour in the intersection itself.

Shifting traffic to the new northbound lanes will allow work crews to construct the new southbound lanes that cross over existing Old Dallas Highway. This traffic configuration will remain in place through early March 2020, dependent on weather and on-site conditions.

During this time period, the eastern leg of Malone Street will be closed, and all traffic bound for Riley’s Early Learning Academy will be on Brown Street North.

Motorists can expect the temporary traffic shift to be in place for several weeks and should expect delays. Motorists are advised to plan to travel alternate routes while the shift is in place. Please exercise caution and reduce speeds while traveling through work zones.
