Douglasville, Georgia- The Douglas County Chairman and Board of Commissioners proclaimed September 22, 2019 as American Business Women's Day. The proclamation was announced at the Board of Commission meeting on Tuesday, October 1, 2019 and read by Dr. Deborah Blake-Johnson, who manages the American Business Women's Association (ABWA) Douglas County Charter Chapter.
The date of September 22 was chosen because ABWA was founded in Kansas City, Missouri on September 22, 1949 and will be commemorating its 70th Anniversary in the month of October with a national women's leadership conference in its founding location.

The mission statement of ABWA is to bring together business women of diverse occupations for them to help themselves and others grow personally and professionally through leadership, education, networking support and national recognition. ABWA has dedicated itself to more than 500,000 women and made important contributions to more than 6.5 million American working women, and 13.6 million women owned and equally owned companies.
ABWA also focuses on the education of others by the creation of national scholarship trust, the Stephen Bufton Memorial Education Fund which has contributed more than $17 million in college scholarships, grants and loans to more than 16,000 women since its inception in 1953.
Dr. Blake-Johnson expressed her sincere gratitude to the Board of Commissioners for the honor and recognition in a Facebook post on behalf of the ABWA Douglas County Charter Chapter by stating, "We appreciate the commissioners' continued support for our organization and its members and are proud to serve in Douglas County."
