On-Site Pharmacy To Debut At Douglas County Community Services

Douglas County will open a pharmacy where mental-health services are provided as a way to help clients stay on their medications.

DOUGLASVILLE, GA — Douglas County’s center for mental-health services will be opening an on-site pharmacy Wednesday as a way to help clients stay on their medications.

The Douglas County Community Services Board will be joined by county officials and representatives of Genoa Healthcare at 3 p.m. to cut the ribbon. The facility is located at 5905 Stewart Parkway.

According to a news release from Douglas County, about one in every 20 Georgia adults lives with a serious mental illness such as schizophrenia, bipolar disorder and major depression. Research shows that when pharmacy services are available where health care is provided, people are more like to obtain their prescriptions and stay on their medications. That lowers hospitalization rates and improves health-care outcomes.

The ribbon cutting will be followed by remarks by Dr. Romona Jackson Jones, chair of the Douglas County Board of Commissioners, and others.

Douglas County Community Services Board (DCCSB) is one of 27 such boards in Georgia. DCCSB provides behavioral health services for individuals with mental illness, substance use disorders, and intellectual or developmental disabilities. The board provides services to about 14 percent of the population of Douglas County, and it partners with local organizations to support community members.
