Spring Has Sprung! Get Ready for Hydrangea Festival
The 8th Annual Penny McHenry Hydrangea Festival on June 6-7, and its flower show is open to all entries with no fee required.

Spring has sprung, plants and flowers are beginning to bud and bloom, and Douglas County gardeners are working their flower beds in anticipation of the 8th Annual Penny McHenry Hydrangea Festival on June 6-7.

The Festival’s Standard Flower Show is one of the highlights of the weekend, and entries into the Show are open to anyone with no entry fee required.
“Ooh, La, La!” is the selected theme for the Standard Flower Show as it appropriately reflects the Festival’s purpose of fun, and represents the French origins of the theme Hydrangea, ‘Madame Emile Mouillere’.”

Highlights:
- The Horticulture Division of the Standard Flower Show will feature entries in 66 classes of flowers, shrubs, trees, ferns, herbs and more. Over 500 horticulture entries are anticipated.
- The Design Division will feature table and tray designs with floral pieces in six classes, all on a French theme.
- The Standard Flower Show will also feature special exhibits, including a Youth Design Division with entries interpreting “Beauty and the Beast” and “Puss ‘n Boots.” Educational exhibits will include an exhibit on soil and composting; an Espalier tutorial; and a butterfly conservancy tutorial on Mrs. Rosalynn Carter’s Butterfly Garden Trail.
- There will also be three classes of Artistic Crafts where entrants will decorate artistic cakes, Eiffel Towers, and women’s high heel shoes with flowers!

The Standard Flower Show is organized and sponsored by the Ama-Kanasta Garden Club, the Sweetwater Garden Club, and the Town and Country Garden Club of Douglas County, all members of Dogwood District VI, The Garden Club of Georgia, Inc., Deep South Region and National Garden Clubs, Inc. The Standard Flower Show is co-sponsored by the Douglas County Master Gardeners Association, and is held in the Atrium of the Douglas County Courthouse, 8700 Hospital Drive.
