Underground Work To Slow Douglasville Traffic

DOUGLASVILLE, GA — The City of Douglasville announced this week that the Douglasville-Douglas County Water Sewer Authority will dig up and move a 12-inch water main on Wednesday along southbound Highway 5. The pipe runs underneath the shoulder in front of the Walgreens at 9465 Highway 5.

This work will require the closure of a southbound lane of Highway 5 between the Walgreens entrance and Douglas Boulevard. Work is set begin at 9 a.m. Wednesday and is expected to take up to 16 hours to complete, according to the city. The closure will affect traffic all day.

The water and sewer authority said that water service in the area will be turned off later in the day, after the new underground pipe has been placed.

The area affected by the outage will be limited to customers on the northwest corner of Highway 5, which includes Walgreens along Douglas Boulevard up to 7191 Douglas Blvd., and includes 9423 Highway 5. The outage will not affect customers west of 7191 Douglas Blvd.

The time and date of the road work may change due to weather conditions. Motorists are advised to expect delays and use detours, exercise caution and reduce their speed while traveling through work zones.
