"Since opening the first birthing center in 1976, WellStar Douglas has been at the forefront of innovation in maternal health care services by developing facilities that enhance the bonding experience between mothers and newborns," said Craig Owens, WellStar senior vice president and president of WellStar Douglas Hospital. "When we began designing The Women's Center, our mission was to provide personalized care to mothers and newborns in a setting that felt like home. We understand how crucial it is for patients to be in an environment that offers support and privacy while bonding with their baby. Our vision has come to life, as this center has brought together cutting-edge medical technology with spa-like amenities to improve the birthing experience."

The Women's Center, located on the second floor of the hospital, includes 10 labor and delivery, recovery and postpartum (LDPR) suites, allowing mothers and babies to remain in the same room during their stay. All suites are equipped with Bluetooth capability and feature bedside recovery for mothers and babies to bond in the initial hours after birth. The rooms are appointed with a full bathroom, a convertible sleeper bed with side table conversion for dining, multiple USB outlets to keep electronic devices charged, and free WiFi to keep families connected.

Additionally, The Women's Center houses a NICU and well-baby nursery. Private NICU nursery suites offer mothers an opportunity to stay with their newborns after discharge, enhancing family bonding time. The suites can accommodate multiple newborns, including triplets. Mothers and babies in high-risk and routine pregnancies have access to maternal-fetal medicine specialists, neonatologists, neonatal nurse practitioners and lactation consultants.

"WellStar Douglas Hospital has a long-standing history and commitment of treating generations of local mothers and families," said Dr. Kevin Ward, obstetrics and gynecology specialist (OBGYN) at WellStar North Douglas OB/GYN and medical director of The Women's Center at WellStar Douglas. "This center will help us meet the growing demand for maternal services in Douglas County and surrounding areas, allowing us to double the number of babies delivered per month. The Level II nursery allows mothers and babies to remain together throughout their hospital stay, which is an incredible resource we are excited to provide."
