Community Foundation for Northeast Georgia: New Nonprofit Academy

The Community Foundation for Northeast Georgia is excited to announce they have re-branded their education events and created their own Nonprofit Academy, launching January 30th, 2020. The Nonprofit Academy will kick off the Community Foundation’s 2020 education events on January 30th with Starting Point - an intensive, half-day of learning and networking for nonprofits. Held from 7:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. at Sonesta Gwinnett Place, the event features speakers from Facebook Atlanta, Columns Fundraising, Excelsior Insights and more. Cost is only $75 for the entire event. This year’s keynote lunch speaker is Milton Little, president and CEO of United Way of Greater Atlanta.

Participants can choose to attend 5 tracks with three classes within each track for a total of 15 classes to choose from. The five tracks are fundraising, leadership development, storytelling, business operations and relationship development. Session topics include:

● How to ask for asset wealth vs income wealth
● Leading change and culture to sustain success
● The insider’s scoop from Facebook
● Why risk management matters for nonprofits
● The secret to high-performing boards (it might not be what you think)

“Our goal in creating our Nonprofit Academy and launching the year with Starting Point was to help our nonprofit partners get off to a great start in 2020,” said Randy Redner, CEO and president of the Community Foundation. “We have a great line up of speakers and topics and are looking forward to providing our nonprofits with valuable information.”

The event concludes with lunch and special keynote speaker Milton J. Little, Jr. Little became the first African-American president of United Way of Greater Atlanta, the second-largest in the national system, in July 2007. Altogether, Little has helped raise more than a billion dollars for local community needs and priorities. Before joining United Way, he served as chief operating officer and interim president and CEO of the National Urban League. He graduated magna cum laude from Morehouse College with a B.A. in sociology and earned an M.A. in urban sociology and social policy from Columbia University.

Little is a member of many boards and advisory committees. Notable among them are the Center for Assessment and Policy Development, past chair of the Southern Education Foundation, and past vice chair of the board of directors for Ways to Work. He is a member of the Atlanta Mayoral Board of Service, the Commerce Club Operating Board, 100 Black Men of Atlanta, Leadership Atlanta Class of 2010 and the Rotary Club of Atlanta. He also serves on the Junior League of Atlanta Community Advisory Board, University of Georgia Advisory Board for the J.W. Fanning Institute for Leadership Development, Atlanta Speech School Board of Advisors, Woodruff Arts Center Board of Trustees, and many more.
