DUI Driver Crashes Into Disabled Car, Killing Driver: Police

DULUTH, GA -- A man is dead after he was crashed into while in his disabled vehicle was stuck on Interstate 85 Saturday. Police say the driver who crashed into him was driving under the influence of alcohol and charged with DUI and homicide by vehicle, first degree.

The deceased man has been identified as Clarke Najee, 24, of Lawrenceville. The at-fault driver has been identified as Amanda Parker, 33, of Norcross.

The Gwinnett County Police Department Accident Investigation Unit investigated the traffic fatality, which occurred around 6 a.m. on Interstate 85 NB, north of Pleasant Hill Rd., in unincorporated Duluth.

Najee was in his disabled vehicle on the right shoulder of the interstate and was struck from behind by a Parker who failed to maintain her lane, pushing the disabled vehicle back into traffic. The disabled vehicle was then struck by a tractor-trailer and caught fire. Although passersby were able to pull Najee from the disabled vehicle to safety, he subsequently passed away from his injuries.
