Gwinnett BBQ Restaurant Scores A 35 On Health Inspection

A wet mop head touching meat was just one of a long list of violations found before the restaurant was shut down Monday.

DULUTH, GA — A Chinese barbecue restaurant in Gwinnett County had its license suspended Monday after scoring an abysmally low 35 on its health inspection.

Best BBQ, located in the Great Wall Supermarket in Duluth, will have to meet with health inspectors before it can re-open because of repeat violations as well as the sheer number of critical violations on the report.

Any score below a 60 on a health inspection is considered a "U," or failing grade.

Among the many violations cited Monday, a wet mop head was found hanging on duck meat, raw pork was being stored touching a trash can, and bowls with "raw animal blood" on them had been put away as clean.

An employee was seen dropping a glove on the floor, then picking it up and putting it on and the person in charge was seen washing hands in a vegetable sink without using soap.

Raw duck was being stored above raw pork, raw seafood was stored next to ready-to-eat mushrooms, raw chicken was stored above raw pork and raw shrimp was stored above preserved eggs in the walk-in cooler.

Ice that was used to keep food cold was seen being put back into bins to be used for customers' drinks and a vegetable sink was being used to thaw chicken feet.

The suspension came because one violation — employee drinks being in the wrong containers and stored around food — was cited at the restaurant for the fourth time and because there were more than nine violations that were considered critical.

The restaurant had received a 83-B on its most recent inspection in August and got a 74-C after an inspection two weeks before that.
