Gwinnett Place Mall To Be Sold
Rumors around the potential sale of Gwinnett Place Mall have turned more concrete now that the owners of the mall are set to sell it.

DULUTH, GA — Rumors of the potential sale of Gwinnett Place Mall have swirled for a while, but it seems there is some validity to that now.
Moonbeam Capital Partners, the owners of the mall, are poised to sell their portion of Gwinnett Place, WSB-TV reported.
The retail facility is a 1.3 million square foot regional mall situated in the southern portion of Gwinnett County at the intersection of Pleasant Hill and 1-85 opened in the mid-1980s. It was bought by Moonbeam Capital Investments in 2013, and announced renovation plans in 2017 which never came to fruition.

The property includes anchors Sears, Macy's, and Mega Mart, and over 400,000 square feet of non-anchor space and 32,603 square feet of office space.
But the "emergence of other nearby shopping centers like the Mall of Georgia and the general trend of declining shopping mall popularity, it eventually fell into despair," WSB-TV reported.

Gwinnett Place Community Improvement District director Joe Allen has said he was frustrated with the mall. Allen told the AJC that Gwinnett Place’s potential sale will make it “ground zero for redevelopment opportunities in Gwinnett County. While Gwinnett Place has had historic tremendous impact on the county, our best chapter is still being written. This sale gives us a chance to help shape that future. Imagine the economic impact possibilities once redevelopment in this area has truly occurred.”
