Gwinnett School of Music: April Workshops!
The Red Clay Music Foundry & The Gwinnett School of Music team up to offer Workshops all throughout the month April!

The Red Clay Music Foundry is the home to Eddie Owen Presents and the newest location for the Gwinnett School of Music. The Red Clay is a music venue and educational facility that nurtures musicians of all ages, styles, and levels of ability.
The Red Clay is Duluth's premier music education venue providing workshops and private lessons through the Gwinnett School of Music as well as collaborative ensemble based programs such as Gwinnett School of Rock. Students have several year-round, weekend, and summer programs to choose from. Plus, as a bonus, Gwinnett School of Music Students receive FREE tickets to all Eddie Owen Presents: Red Clay Music Foundry Concerts!
The Red Clay also offers instrument, recording, and songwriting workshops all throughout the year. The next and upcoming group of workshops are slated for three Saturdays this April.

The Workshops being offered this April include: Musical Theatre, Recording, Jazz Improvisation, Harmony & Theory. Each workshop is taught by professional instructors with experience in their field.
The class times have been strategically arranged for those who may want to attend multiple workshops.

The Musical Theatre Workshop runs on April 13th at 10am-2:30pm. This workshop will cover musical theatre audition techniques. Attendees will gather on the Red Clay Stage to learn key elements required for a strong musical theatre audition: etiquette, physical business, do's and don'ts, and what the people behind the table are actually looking for.
The Musical Theatre instructor, Travis Scoggins, is a graduate of The American Musical and Dramatic Academy with a major in Musical Theatre and is a classically trained actor, singer, and dancer. He has been performing and studying music for over a decade and has appeared in productions in both Atlanta and New York City. In 2011, Travis was recognized by the governor of Georgia for his excellence in music and was invited to study with a select few on an intensive level in the Governor's Honors Program.
The Live Sound Workshop is a two-week workshop running April 20th & 27th at 10am-12pm. This workshop will cover an overview of engineering and mixing. Attendees will learn about front of house signal chain, mixing the FOH sound, utilizing hardware, software processing, monitor signal chain, building mixes for musicians using monitor wedges or personal in-ear monitors, how speakers and amplifiers work and the importance of matching them for their intended purpose, ear training, and effects.
The Live Sound Workshop instructor, Shawn Collins, is an Audio Professor at the Art Institute of Atlanta and a Live Sound Engineer at Eddie Owen Presents: The Red Clay Music Foundry.
The Harmony & Theory Workshop is a two-week workshop running April 20th & 27th at 10am-12pm. This workshop is an accelerated introduction to Harmony (for all instruments). Attendees will join instructor Bill Graham in this two part basic Music Theory crash course. Topics will include: Intervals, The Circle of Fifths, Major Scales, Chords (Triads and Seventh Chords), Harmonic Functions, Minor Scales, Borrowed Chords, and more.
The Jazz Improvisation Workshop is a two-week workshop running April 20th & 27th at 12:30pm-2:30pm. Study with instructor Bill Graham as he teaches the ideas presented in his new book Chord Tone Improvisation: A Practical Method For Playing Jazz Standards. Students will learn about different ways to approach the tones of the chords to create their own improvised lines. This workshop is appropriate for all instrumentalists (except for drummers). This information is highly useful for musicians of all levels.; however, to get the most out of this workshop, attendees should at least know their basic major and minor arpeggios.
The Recording Workshop is a two-week workshop running April 20th & 27th at 2:30pm-4:30pm. This workshop will cover recording a live sound and an intro to mixing. Attendees will learn about Digital Audio Workstation interfaces and more. For the most productive learning experience, attendees are asked to bring their laptop.
The instructor for the Recording Workshop, Tim Wheeler, is the head engineer and owner of Double Sharp Recording Studios and Audio Professor at the Art Institute of Atlanta.
