Gwinnett School of Music: FREE November Workshops

Gwinnett School of Music partnering with Red Clay Music Foundry to offer FREE Workshops to all ages for the month of November.

The Red Clay Music Foundry has partnered with the Gwinnett School of Music for several years, and in that time it has become Duluth's premier music education venue, providing workshops and private lessons for all ages, styles, and levels of ability and experience.

The Red Clay was named Gwinnett Daily Post's Reader's Choice for "Best Music Lessons" this year. In honor of that fact (compounding with a desire to offer education to all those who have expressed interest in special topics), the Red Clay, the Gwinnett School of Music, and several music teachers have collaborated to offer 5 specialty workshops throughout the month of November at NO COST to the participants.

This is an exciting opportunity for the entire community, and registration for the workshops has already begun with an enthusiastic turn out so far. There is a considerable hope that these workshops will fill to a hefty class size full of diverse ages, experience levels, and interests.

Live Sound (November 10th at 1pm):
Join a discussion on the dynamics of Live Sound Reinforcement within a live club, house of worship, arena, music festival, or otherwise. Review mixing consoles, loudspeakers, amplifiers, microphones, and live sound reinforcement effects. Instructor, Shawn Collins, is an Audio Professor at the Art Institute of Atlanta and a Live Sound Engineer at Eddie Owen Presents: The Red Clay Music Foundry.

Vocal Toning (November 10th at 2:30pm):
Your Voice and You - The purpose of this class series is to work towards achieving your best sound. Focus is on vocal methods to improve awareness, breath control, relaxation, tonal quality, improvisation, as well as your overall performance on and off stage. The series is intended to help you learn how frequency and intention work together to create harmony of the spirit, mind, and body. Musicians and non-musicians are welcome. Instructor, Kim Wright, has over 11 years of experience teaching and an extensive education and performance background, including MMUS Performance in Jazz Vocals. She is currently working on her PHD, and her band, Days Ahead, has co-billed with Chaka Khan, Al Green, George Duke, Fourplay, and many more.

Jazz Improvisation (November 17th at 1pm):
An Introductory Level Course - Join local jazz pianist and educator, Bill Graham, as he introduces the ideas presented in his new book, Chord Tone Improvisation: A Practical Method For Playing On Jazz Standards. Students will learn about different ways to approach the tones of the chords to create their own improvised lines. This workshop is appropriate for all instrumentalists except for drummers. We recommend that any attendees at least know their basic major and minor arpeggios to get the most out of this workshop. This information is highly useful for musicians of all levels.

Recording Workshop (November 17th at 2:30pm):
An Introductory Level Course - This is an overview of the different stages of development for recording and mixing a song. The class will take an already recorded song from a roughly recorded session and turn it into a radio-ready mix to share on social media. Instructor, Tim Wheeler, is the head engineer and owner of Double Sharp Recording Studios and an Audio Professor at the Art Institute of Atlanta.

The Red Clay Music Foundry and the Gwinnett School of Music would like to welcome any and all community members that are interested to come out and register for these FREE Workshops! We look forward to sharing the magic of music with you this November.
