Welcome to the Thursday edition of the Duluth Daily Digest. This is the place where you can catch up on all of your local news and events!

Here's the latest news from around town:
1) After a valiant battle with cancer, Gwinnett County chief operating officer Jim Steele has passed away. Jim Steele spent 36 years working for GCPS as a construction man and retired in 2012. Mr. Steele's legacy will run on within GCPS and throughout the county. (Gwinnett Daily Post)
2) Gwinnett County Schools are taking a new twist on its summer school programs by previewing content for the coming year to build students' confidence. Students are also able to take extracurricular classes like dancing so they can leave with the knowledge that learning does not always come from their content courses. (CBS46)
3) If you have a child moving into kindergarten this coming fall, GCPS has created online learning activities for your child to prepare for school. GCPS also would like to remind parents that it is not too late to sign your student up for kindergarten. (Patch)
4) Gwinnett County commission just approved a $1,000,000 contract to build a place for fleet maintenance. Police Chief James McClure says that the new building will increase efficiency and will help lessen the delay. (AJC)
5) On July 12, there was a gathering at the VFW 5255 to celebrate Flag Day. There were local elected officials at this event to help with the presentation. There was also a 21 Gun salute and the National Anthem was sung by a local musician. (Gwinnett Daily Post)

1) Food Truck Fridays in Duluth- Come out to Parson's Alley for a block party on Main Street and food trucks! The event starts at 6 p.m.
2) The Ruperts — Thrasher Park is continuing its summer concert series this week with The Ruperts performing at 7:30 p.m.
3) Eddie Owens Presents: Grace Pettis with George from 100 Watt Horse — If you find yourself in Parson's Alley, stop by for some live music at the Red Brick Theater at 8 p.m.
4) Toddler Friday!- The Hudgens Arts Center is hosting an event for toddlers ages 1-4 for them to use creativity and to make friends. The event costs $5, and will start at 10 a.m.
5) The Riff Blender Band- Hop on over to Abbott's Bar and Grill for a local performance by the Riff Blender Band at 7:30 p.m.
6) Flesh and Blood Armory Event Week 1- Swing by Level Up Games for the first of four weeks of Armory games. Follow the link to EventBrite to purchase your ticket and for more information. The event starts at 7 p.m.
7) Schoolhouse Brewing Tap Takeover- Come out to Barelygarden for some local brews and to chat with the team at Schoolhouse Brewing. This event is perfect for anyone interested in homebrewing or if you are a beer enthusiast. The event starts at 5 p.m.]
