Lawrenceville Man Charged For Hit-And-Run That Led To Fatal Crash

Police say he rear-ended a car and drove off. While the hit-and-run victim was pursuing him, she was involved in a fatal collision.

DULUTH, GA — Gwinnett County police have arrested a man in connection with an August hit-and-run which led to a woman's death, the police department said in a news release. Jose Medina, 24, of Lawrenceville, was arrested after a tip came in on Crime Stoppers on Friday, Sept. 6.

On Tuesday, Aug. 27, Musha Shekhani, 23, of Lawrenceville, was stopped on Steve Reynolds Boulevard near I-85 when she was rear ended by a white, older model SUV or pickup. That car drove off and Shekhani followed.

The fleeing vehicle was going west on Steve Reynolds Boulevard and turned left onto Venture Drive, narrowly avoiding another crash. Shekhani, in pursuit, turned left as well, and was hit by an oncoming box truck.

The driver of the hit-and-run vehicle, who police say is Medina, didn't stop. Shekhani was seriously injured and later died, police say.

He was arrested for the collision and booked into the Gwinnett County Detention Center on charges of hit-and-run, following too close and violating a driving permit. He will not be charged with the collision that killed Shekhani, police say.
