McDaniel Farm Park Getting $3.4 Million Upgrade

A playground, dog park and picnic pavilion are just part of the Gwinnett park's newly approved phase two.

Gwinnett County’s historically themed McDaniel Farm Park will be getting $3.4 million in upgrades after the county commission approved a phase-two construction project for the site.

A new playground, extended walking trails, a dog park and picnic pavilion are all part of the project, which is funded by special-purpose local-option sales tax money.

Opened in 2004 in the Gwinnett Place Mall area, McDaniel Farm Park is a 134-acre area restored to look like a typical Gwinnett farm from the 1930s.There’s a furnished farmhouse, barn, blacksmith shed, carriage house and tenant house on the site, as well as amenities that include three miles of paved and soft-surface trails.

A new, northeast entrance from McDaniel Road and Duluth Highway, an open play area, a restroom building, additional parking and road work are also part of the planned construction.

“This phase was envisioned by the citizens committee that helped create the original master plan for McDaniel Farm Park,” county Commissioner Jace Brooks said in a news release. “I’m happy the plans call for a playground and the dog park, two enhancements that were requested by residents in the local community.

“The entire park is a wonderful amenity that enhances the surrounding Gwinnett Place area.”

The news comes two weeks after the commission approved $1 million in additions and renovations at Ronald Reagan Park near Snellville.
