DeKalb County 4th Of July Fireworks: 2018 Guide

Decatur and Stone Mountain will have two of metro Atlanta's most popular July 4th celebrations.

DECATUR, GA — DeKalb County will be home to two of the biggest July 4 celebrations in metro Atlanta in 2018. Decatur and Stone Mountain have fireworks, parades and other events set for the Fourth, for those folks who don't want to head into downtown Atlanta for the Fourth of July festivities there.

Here's a look at what's happening in DeKalb:

Decatur Fourth of July Parade and Fireworks
Where: Downtown Decatur
When: Wednesday, July 4, 2018
Parade: Parade lineup is at 5:30 p.m. at First Baptist Church of Decatur, at 308 Clairemont Ave. The parade begins at 6 p.m. Anyone is welcome to join, walking, riding bikes or in vehicles. Those wishing to enter vehicles must register by emailing Shirley.baylis@decaturga.com or by calling 678-553-6573. The parade route is about one mile long. It turns right out of the church parking lot, left onto Commerce Drive, right onto Church Street, right onto E. Ponce de Leon Avenue, left onto Commerce Drive, left onto W. Trinity Place and ends at N. McDonough Street. Parade guidelines.
Music: A Concert on the Square follows the parade in Decatur Square, at the community bandstand. The Callanwolde Concert Band will perform. Music begins at 7 p.m.
Fireworks: Fireworks are set to begin at dark — likely around 9 p.m.

Fantastic Fourth Celebration at Stone Mountain Park

Where: Stone Mountain Park, 1000 Robert E. Lee Blvd., Stone Mountain
When: July 1-7. The park is celebrating July 4 with seven nights of its fireworks and laser-light show. Attraction hours are 10:30 a.m.-8 p.m. those days and the laser show and fireworks begin at 9:30 p.m.
About: The laser show will feature new music, animation, water effects, an immersive laser canopy, and a fleet of robotic drones synced with music in front of the 825-foot mountain face. A special patriotic fireworks finale follows the laser show all seven nights of the celebration.
Cost: Memorial Lawn seating for the show is free with a daily or seasonal parking fee.
Details: Visitors may bring their own food to the show (Concessions also are available.) Alcohol may be brought to the park, but is not permitted on streets, in parking lots or other posted areas, including the laser show. No glass containers are allowed. The park typically draws large crowds for July 4. Visitors are urged to get there early.

Other DeKalb July 4 Events

  • Dunwoody 4th of July Parade. The 9 a.m. parade features marching bands, floats, clowns, animal units and local celebrities. Last year the parade attracted over 2,500 participants and 32,000 spectators.
  • Chamblee Fourth of July Celebration. From 5-10 p.m. at Keswick Park, there will be a bike parade, corn hole tournament, live music from Bogey and the Viceroy and a fireworks show.
