Do You Favor a Couple of Ga. 400 Toll Lanes for Charity?
New petition suggests Ga. 400 motorists be given the option to contribute their spare change to local nonprofits for the betterment of metro area, including Dunwoody.
The Ga. 400 toll collection is officially a thing of the past, but some people feel that maybe it shouldn’t.
But instead of commuters chipping in to pay for additional Georgia Department of Transportation projects, a new petition is suggesting motorists contribute their “spare change toward bettering metro Atlanta for everyone.”
A petition called “Drive the Change” has been launched proposing two toll lanes to stay open beginning in January in order to encourage voluntary donations.
One northbound lane would allow for donations to Chattahoochee Riverkeeper (CR), while a southbound lane would be open for donations to the United Way of Greater Atlanta.

As it stands now, removal of plaza toll booths, the canopy, as well as reinforcement and filling of the tunnel stairwells, will begin in January with the demolition project, which reportedly will cost $3.5 million, expected to be completed in the fall of 2014.
