I-285 Car Crash Leaves Two Victims on Ventilators

The accident occurred early Sunday morning.


Dunwoody police are investigating a serious accident that occurred early Sunday morning that has left two victims on ventilators.

The accident occurred around 2:15 on Feb. 24 at I-285 and Chamblee Dunwoody Road, when a Chevy Tahoe struck a Mercury Grand Marquis. Police said the Tahoe's driver, Francisco Rodriguez-Vazquez, fled the scene on foot after the crash but was located in the immediate area by police shortly after the collision.

Polcie said both the driver and a passenger in the Mercury were injured in the crash. Evelyn Ngoboworigha and Stroyer Butler were both taken to the Atlanta Medical Center with life-threatening injuries and are both on ventilators.

Police said Rodriguez-Vazquez was driving while unlicensed and was under the influence of alcohol. Charges against Rodriguez-Vazquez are pending. He is currently housed at the Dekalb County Jail.
