Dunwoody Unemployment Rate Rises in May

New figures were released by the Georgia Department of Labor Thursday morning.

Dunwoody's unemployment rate to 6.5 percent in May, an increase from last month's 5.9 percent.

The Georgia Department of Labor announced Thursday morning that metro Atlanta’s overall unemployment rate increased to 8.2 percent in May, up six-tenths of a percentage point from 7.6 percent in April. The rate was 8.7 percent in May a year ago.

The rate increased primarily because of an increase in layoffs and an influx of new job seekers into the labor force, both seasonal in nature.

Dunwoody' unemployment rate was 6.2 in May 2012.
