Happy April Fools' Day! What’s the Best Prank You’ve Ever Seen?

Here are some fun pranks to play on April 1.

April Fools' Day is here.

Now, I'm not naturally a funny person, but I have been known to take advantage of certain situations.

In the 80s, I worked for a magazine editor who hated - absolutely hated - to open mail. This was back in the day when when baskets upon baskets would be delivered to her office each day.

One week in late March, while she was at an out-of-town conference, I took care of her mail, but kept the envelopes, putting them back in the mail basket in near-perfect condition.

Her first day back at work was actually on April 1. She groaned when she entered her office, seeing four baskets full of envelopes. It wasn't until she got halfway through the first basket that she realized she'd been had.

Then there was the time I sent recall notices to my future wife and her best friend, regarding their brand-new vehicles bought within days of each other.

If you want to pull a prank on this playful holiday, here are some fun and easy ideas to try:

Tape magnets to the bottom of an empty coffee cup, and attach it to the top of your car. Laugh at all the people who frantically try to get your attention as you drive by. — April Fool Zone

Super Glue some coins to the sidewalk or any spot that gets a lot of foot traffic. Make sure it's an appropriate place, then watch people try to get the coins. — Kidz World

“Foil” a co-worker. — Instructables

Guyism offers several April Fools’ Day suggestions to try around the office:

  • Borrow someone’s cell phone and change the language setting to a foreign language.
  • Add several odd appointments with alarms set to go off during the day to a co-worker’s calendar.
  • Hide all of the desktop icons on someone’s computer and replace the monitor’s wallpaper with a screenshot of their desktop.
  • Place a small piece of a Post-it note over the ball under someone’s computer mouse so that it won’t work.
