Man Killed In Dunwoody Police Shooting Identified

The man is suspected of robbing a Kroger in Johns Creek before police found him in a Wal-Mart parking lot in Dunwoody.

DUNWOODY, GA — Authorities have identified the robbery suspect who was shot and killed by a Dunwoody Police officer on Saturday.

Jason Lappe, 44, was shot by an officer in the parking lot of the Wal-Mart at 5025 Winters Chapel Rd. in Dunwoody on Saturday morning, according to the Georgia Bureau of Investigation. He was suspected of an armed robbery at the Kroger at 8465 Holcomb Bridge Rd. in Johns Creek.

According to police, Lappe forced his way into a register at the Kroger before fleeing the location. A witness to the armed robbery followed him to the Wal-Mart parking lot, where Dunwoody Police and a Johns Creek police officer located his car, police said.

"When confronted by officers, the suspect did not comply with their verbal commands and exited the vehicle," police said in a news release. "Fearing for his safety and the safety of others, an officer fired one shot striking the suspect."

Lappe was taken to Grady Memorial Hospital, where he later died, according to the GBI. As is routine in police shootings, the GBI is investigating. Police responded to the Wal-Mart at about 7:45 a.m. Saturday.
