3-Year-Old Boy Killed In DeKalb Drive By Shooting: Reports

The boy's mother saw what she thought was a paintball gun, but then heard a real gun shot.

DEKALB COUNTY, GA — A DeKalb County drive-by shooting left a 3-year-old boy dead Sunday night, according to reports. T'Rhigi Diggs was killed while he was sleeping in his car seat, Channel 2 Action News reported.

Channel 2 spoke with Diggs' mother, Rashonda Craig, at the intersection where the brutal and senseless shooting happened. "I didn’t know my baby was shot, I’m thinking he just woke up. The gunshot scared him," she said.

“She saw somebody who was pointing what appeared to be a paintball gun at her vehicle and she heard a real gunshot,” DeKalb County Police Chief James Conroy said.

Craig said she was driving on Bouldercrest Road in southeast Atlanta around 11:30 p.m. Sunday. When she was crossing Eastland Road, a gray Dodge Charge pulled up and somebody pointed a gun at her car and fired.

She didn't immediately notice that her boy had been shot. She realized it less than a mile up the road, Channel 2 reported. Medics rushed T'Rhigi to a hospital where he died.

“My baby was sleeping, my baby was sleeping in the backseat when I saw the car come past, I saw a paintball gun but then I heard a real gun. When I heard the gunshot, my baby started crying. I didn't know my baby was shot,” Craig told Channel 2.

Police are looking for a gray Dodge Charger with a temporary tag. Police have no established motive for the shooting, but "believe the (shooter/s) thought someone else was driving the car," DeKalb police spokesperson Shiera Campbell said, according to the Atlanta Journal Constitution.

"Please tell me who did this to my baby. I want justice for my baby. My baby didn’t deserve this. Please help me," Craig said, Channel 2 reported.
