5 Things East Atlanta Patch Does That You Might Not Know

East Atlanta Patch is growing, and we're a great way to get your word out. Here's how.

ATLANTA -- East Atlanta Patch is here to help you in a variety of ways, whether it's publishing a story about a loved one, getting the word out about something you're trying in the community or whether you're interested in getting your own point-of-view out, we've got no-cost options for you.

Here are 5 things we do that you might not know about:

1) We publish obituaries.
Have you recently lost a loved one? We're here for you. We publish obituaries in our Patch communities so that others can stay connected with those we've lost. Here's one we wrote about one of our founding members: Mark Maley Was Hardworking Journalist, Dedicated Father. Send an email to tim.darnell@patch.com with the obituary, and please include a photo.

2) We publish awesome photos.
We know that a photo — taken by anyone at any time with any camera (even on a phone) — is a great way to share and connect with people in your community. Send an email to tim.darnell@patch.com to get your cool photo published across our state network of more than 30 community news sites.

3) We write stories about local students doing great things.
Kids are amazing for a variety of reasons, and we want to help bring some of their best attributes out into the public light. For that reason, we publish monthly Students of the Month in many of our Patch communities. We accept nominations any day, any time, and sometimes we have multiple honorees in each community. Send an email to tim.darnell@patch.com. Include a story about your awesome student, a photo, and why they're your community's student of the month.

4) We let our readers write what they want.
Do you wish you had a platform to sing the praises of people and events that make your community special? If you love your community, Patch mayor might be just the thing for you.
Here are three great reasons to apply to be a Patch Mayor:

  • You'll be able to use Patch and our Facebook and Twitter pages to spread the word about about charity events, local celebrations, civic issues, weather, high school sports, new restaurants or businesses, and more.
  • Spark and guide local conversations as the host of your Patch about what's happening nearby — be it a lost pet or a controversial issue in front of the city council.
  • You'll be published on Patch, reaching thousands of your neighbors and people in other nearby cities.

The ideal Patch Mayor is a civic-minded, sociable resident who's plugged into what people in town are saying and doing, likes to write, is active on social media and wants to share the stories of his or her neighborhood or town and guide community conversation.

So, if you've ever wanted to blog about your neighborhood or town, this could be your opportunity to do so — with the full support of our editorial team, a state-of-the-art publishing platform, and access to thousands of newsletter subscribers and Facebook fans.

Interested? First, if you don't already have one, create a Patch account here (it's free and very easy), then fill out the brief Patch Mayor application form below and a Patch editor will be in touch with more information. (If you cannot view the form on this page, click here)

5) We write about people who try hard to help others.
We know that helping others is the bread-and-butter of what we do as people. For that reason, we are always happy to help spread the word when you have a school function, community fundraiser, public rally or prayer vigil that you want others to join. Send an email to me at tim.darnell@patch.com so we can share your story across our state network of 20 community news sites.
