Seniors from Drew Charter School's first-ever graduating class announce their plans Friday in joyous and historic event.
EAST ATLANTA, GA -- In a historic day for Drew Charter School, graduating seniors announced their plans Friday, which for many included institutions of higher learning. The event, called Decision Day for the school, marked Drew's first-ever graduating class.
To the delight of the crowd, students touted their future colleges and universities as a nod to the school's vow to provide a pipeline from kindergarten to college for East Atlanta's youth.
Charles R. Drew Charter School, which opened in 2000 as the city’s first public charter school, has seen its graduates come in as kindergarteners fashioned for higher education. Eighty-two students are set to graduate on Saturday, May 20 at 4 p.m. at the school's gymnasium on 900 East Lake Boulevard.

The school's cradle-to-college philosophy is infused into the neighborhood's revitalization led by the East Lake Foundation.
Gov. Nathan Deal, former Atlanta Mayor Shirley Franklin and Atlanta Public Schools’ Superintendent Meria Carstarphen are all expected to be in attendance at Drew Charter School's graduation.
