Police Looking for Shooter in Deadly Burglary
East Atlanta man, 30, dies in struggle with intruder; $5,000 reward offered for tips.

ATLANTA, GA — The police are searching for a burglar who shot to death a man from McDuffie County on Monday during a break-in at his apartment, and a $5,000 reward has been posted for tips to the suspect's whereabouts, according to media reports
The shooting occurred at the East Atlanta Village apartments at 1205 Metropolitan Ave. When police arrived at the scene, they found 30-year-old Jonathan Alex Newton had been shot multiple times and left for dead, TV station WRDW Channel 12 reported.
According to witnesses, Newton came home and found his front door kicked in, Channel 12 reported. When he entered his apartment, he saw the burglar and got into a fight with him.

The burglar shot Newton and then fled the scene, Channel 12 reported.
In its Twitter feed on Wednesday, the Atlanta police released a surveillance photo of a man wanted for questioning in the shooting (see above). And Crime Stoppers Greater Atlanta has posted a reward of up to $5,000 for information leading to the individual's arrest. according to its Facebook page.

Newton grew up in Thomson and moved to Atlanta to work for a construction company, according to Channel 12. His family is trying to raise money in a GoFundMe page for him to add to the Crimestoppers reward.
