Written by Kali Mann

ATLANTA-During the week of September 17-23, The YMCA of Metro Atlanta hosted its annual “Welcoming Week.” The event brought both immigrants and US-born citizens to their local YMCAs to get to know one and other and celebrate what unites them as a community.

Members were also encouraged to bring their friends and neighbors to the Y to take advantage of special promotions such as a 5-day guest pass. The week’s activities included the integration of international music in group exercise classes, voter registration, flag day and more.

"Welcoming week is an annual celebration of communities that fully embrace immigrants and their contributions to the social fabric of our country," said Lydia Thacker, Chief Diversity Officer for the YMCA of Metro Atlanta. "During this week, the Metro Atlanta YMCA provides opportunities to promote cross-cultural understanding and demonstrate the YMCA's commitment to welcoming all."

In celebration of Welcoming Week, the $100 joining fee has been waived through October 7, 2018. Get to know your Y by visiting your local branch or online at www.ymcaatlanta.org
