Chattahoochee Alligator Can Stay, Rangers Decide
The large reptile has retreated to some of the park's more remote areas, rangers say.

After attempting to trap a large alligator living off Cochran Shoals Trail on the Chattahoochee River, park rangers have decided to let the alligator stay put.
Portions of the Chattahoochee River Recreation area had been temporarily closed to protect the reptile. Wildlife officials were worried about the gator's safety, and stressed the alligator hadn't harmed anyone.
"They were harassing the alligator and throwing things at it, so we closed that section of the trail to protect the alligator, quite frankly,” Park Ranger Jerry Hightower told Channel 2 Action News last month.
Worried about the gator's safety, park rangers, according to WTVM, put out several traps in an effort to relocate the gator to south Georgia or Florida. But now, the gator seems to have retreated from some of the high-traffic areas he was in, so Hightower says the park has decided he can stay.
The alligator is 6 to 8 feet long, and may have once been someone's pet.

So the Chattahoochee River Alligator is not a myth. I shot these today at the Chattahoochee NRA. Not very good pictures...
